Medical research shows that a healthy lifestyle is 70% dependent upon diet and 30% dependent upon physical activity. Whether you choose to believe the numbers or not, it would seem logical to get one's diet right first in order to get the most benefit from any exercise routine. At Northwick, we believe that diet and nutrition should be the cornerstone of everyone's health and fitness programme.
If you've ever been to the gym, the chances are that you will already be familiar with the basics of eating a sensible diet in order for your body to provide sufficient energy to see you through a workout. And, even if you're a stranger to the gym, you'll probably relate to the feeling of tiredness and lethargy that can suddenly creep up on you if you go too long between meals!
Your body needs an ongoing, good source of energy which it derives from the food you consume. If you go a long time between meals or eat the wrong types of food, then your body is unable to generate sufficient energy and reserves run low. This is what makes you feel tired and lethargic. Under these conditions, in order to keep you going, your body draws on your fat reserves for energy. Whilst this sounds a great way to lose weight, the problem comes when this pattern is repeated. Your body will become used to using your fat reserves and it starts to keep a little more fat in the cupboard, so to speak, just in case. Consequently, good practice is to eat a little (of the right foods) and eat frequently rather than going for hours between large meals. This keeps your energy levels more stable during the day and allows your body to convert the energy more efficiently whilst minimising the need for excessive fat reserves.
If you'd like to get your diet sorted out, then in my opinion the best place to start is by looking at the nutritional value of what you currently eat. That way, you'll be able to see the foods that provides you with the most nutrition and identify those that don't. With this information, you can then make adjustments to your diet as necessary. This does not mean crash dieting or living on vegetables alone, it's simply a way of optimising what you eat to suit your lifestyle.
With this in mind, I've developed my own unique questionnaire (http://www.northwick.eu/Pages/Nutrition.aspx) that you can fill in and send to me. The service is completely free and without obligation and the process will take you no more than 5 minutes (plus you can take my word that there are no hidden boxes requiring your credit card details!). When you submit your questionnaire, the details you enter will be electronically sent to me. You and I will then begin communicating via email and use this information to put together your own, unique Nutrition Programme.
So what's the catch you're thinking......well, there is none. This is a complimentary service provided by Northwick Academy. Our philosophy is to help you get the most benefit from your dealings with us. Simple as!
So, start here, today. Complete the questionnaire and submit!
